Our last meeting took place on Thursday 3rd March at the church Hall. We were pleased to have Alan Hibbert with us who gave a Lent meditation entitled Fruits of the Spirit. His meditation was based on Galatians Ch5 v 22, 23. It highlighted love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control as indicators of those who follow a Christian way of life. We would like to thank Alan for his time and challenging talk.
Amendments to Programme for 2016
Please note that the Theatre visit for May 2016 has been cancelled. We hope to do this popular event next year. Also the talk planned for 9th May by Mark Baker on Peer Mentoring at Thorn Cross has been cancelled. This is due to Mark resigning his position at the prison. We are working hard to get a replacement speaker for this date. See attachment.
Our next meeting will be held on 21st April and will be our Men’s Thanksgiving Service to be held at St Matthews Church at 7.30 p.m. also on 28th April at 8. p.m. in the church hall, Alan Jewell will be giving a talk on the Life of a Vicar (Part Two).
Happy New Year to everyone and it is pleasing to start the programme for 2016.
Connections Men’s Group had an excellent meeting at the Ring O’ Bells on 14th January. The talk was given by our friend Eirlys Jessop, who explained that the origins of Christian Aid was formed after the Second World War, to help the refugees, but not to evangelise. This was led by the British and Irish Churches.
In 1957 the Churches decided the public needed to be better informed and the first week of red envelopes for Christian Aid was sent out and collected. The name Christian Aid was formally adopted in 1964 and emphasis was placed on more genuine solutions to concerns, not just handouts. Christian Aid is the main leader in support of the Fair Trade movement, and is also campaigning against tax dodging and climate change.
On a promising note, the British Government matches the money raised by Christian Aid on its Christmas appeal of £1 for £1.
Our next meeting will be held on 11th February 2016 at 8 p.m. at the Church Hall our speaker will be Major Adrian Coupe from the Salvation Army in Warrington who will be telling us of the work of his church in the local area.
Final reminder subs are now due for 2016 any new members or existing members should contact the chairman David Rose on 01925 555757 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
