Weddings at St. Matthew's Church, Stretton

Getting married in a Church of England Church has been made easier and more accessible since the new marriage measure came in during October 2008. This means that you can get married in our church if you are resident in the parish and also if:

  • One of you were baptised or prepared for confirmation  in this Church
  • One of you has ever lived in the parish for six months or more
  • One of you has at any time regularly attended public worship in the parish for a period of six months or more
  • one of your parents has lived in this parish for six months or more in your lifetime
  • one of your parents has regularly attended public worship in this parish for at least six months or more
  • your parents or grandparents were married in this Church

Should you find yourself unable to meet these criteria then you may achieve qualification by attending services at this Church for a period of six months in order to apply to go on the Church electoral roll after which you can asked to be married in our Church. We can pencil in a future wedding date on the understanding that you make yourself eligible to register on the Church electoral roll.

With any of the situations above, if you have been married before then a discussion with the Vicar needs to take place first

So, in short, it may be possible to marry in our Church and we look forward to seeing you.

Our services are listed on this website.

Please introduce yourself to the Vicar when you first attend at our services.
